What to Expect

A kitchen renovation is probably the most disruptive home improvement project, as it is taking place in the core of your home – Your Kitchen – the room everyone depends on.

While your kitchen is out of use, you should consider a place in your home to set up a temporary meal center. Somewhere you can have access to a microwave, toaster, etc. Preparing or purchasing meals that can be frozen and later microwaved will also help to reduce the temporary inconvenience.

Appliances  

You must provide all appliance specifications to your designer. If for example, you did not have a fridge selected at the time your kitchen was designed, you have agreed to an opening size, and you would be responsible to consult with your appliance specialist to ensure it fits the opening properly. Make sure your fridge door opens wide enough to properly let the crispers pull out smoothly. If a fridge opening is next to a wall it is very important that you check with them to make sure the door opens wide enough to clear so you can utilize your crispers. Cut outs for sinks, ovens and ranges can only be performed if your appliances (or cut out templates) are at the work site during the installation process. Please remember to place your appliances outside of the work area.


Upon review of my plan I agree with my designer to the door swings (right or left) and handle placement as shown.

Before your installation can begin all cabinetry, cabinetry contents and appliances must be removed from and/or relocated to another room. If we are removing your old kitchen, please ensure all contents and appliances have been removed prior to our arrival.

If you are planning to repaint your kitchen – we recommend doing it prior to installation. It is much easier to do touch ups (as during the installation there may be some minor damage to the walls) than to try to paint around your new cabinetry.

Replacing your floor? We recommend the following:

Hardwood – should be installed before your cabinetry – you may want to install the flooring underneath your cabinets as well. If you ever decide to change the layout, your flooring does not become an obstacle. If hardwood is not installed prior to the cabinetry installation, additional charges will apply to cover build up materials and labour as needed to bring cabinetry up to the finished floor level.

Ceramic – should be installed before your cabinetry, you may want to install the flooring underneath your cabinets as well. Any future changes will not be restricted by your floor.

Floating/Laminate – should be installed after your kitchen installation. This flooring needs space for movement and should not be installed under your cabinetry. When flooring is installed after the cabinetry there may be a gap between the floor and cabinetry. ¼ round can be ordered and supplied to match your cabinetry for an additional cost. You should consult with your flooring specialist on this and how much they may require.

If the flooring is not installed when the cabinet installation is complete we can either (at your choice) install the toe kick or we can pre cut to size and come back at a later date to install. Additional charges would apply.

All plumbing must be disconnected and capped off and any electrical disconnections must be complete – i.e. dishwasher, built in oven, hood vent, switches to be relocated, etc. before we arrive.

It is sometimes very compelling to watch the installer while he works; however, this may place you in harm’s way should a piece of wood fly off a running saw (as an example). It is for your own safety and protection that we ask you not to stand in the room and watch the installer while he works.

Should a hidden or pre-existing condition be encountered during the installation, the installer will notify the company and the client and make recommendations on the options available. If additional charges apply, you will be notified of the details so you can make an informed decision on how you would like us to proceed.

If you are planning to install a tile backsplash please advise the installer and provide him either with a sample piece or measurement of the tile. He will need this so the light rail can be cut accordingly allowing the proper gap by the wall for the tile to be installed behind. Additional charges will apply if a return trip is required to re cut and install light rail.

Once your kitchen is complete, the installer will require you to do a final inspection noting any deficiencies if applicable. You will be notified by our scheduling department with a return date.

We cannot be responsible for damages caused by others. For example, plumbers, electricians scratching counters or denting and damaging the cabinetry.
